Project Background

An application for funding support was made to the MAF Sustainable Farming Fund to fund a project to assist beekeepers respond to the pressures placed on their businesses in response to Varroa and other issues. The application was successful and has also attracted funding support from the Honey Trusts.....

The overall goal of the project is for beekeepers to strengthen their businesses by using an expanded range of income streams so that they can survive and prosper after infection by Varroa. Healthy businesses will be able to offer better employment opportunities and continue to provide the pollination services that underpin the New Zealand agricultural economy.
